MEPs in Poland have a relatively high media profile, are attractive employers for ambitious young party staffers and have more freedom to pursue their interests with less direct party discipline.Īccording to media speculation, much of which is being fed by candidates positioning themselves for a run, PiS is facing a real headache as to who to include, and who to leave out, from among the ranks of its senior politicians.įirst of all, the current crop of MEPs are all rather partial to staying on for another term. In many other EU countries moving to the EP is seen as either a “retiring ground” for politicians who have had a long political career back at home or as a way of establishing oneself for a career in domestic politics later. If all those who wanted to get into the EP could do so, Polish politics back at home would be faced with a situation of “will the last one leaving please turn out the lights.” ![]() They earn five-to-six times more than do domestic deputies in Poland. In addition, potential candidates are attracted to the EP by the relatively high salaries and benefits that MEPs are able to get. Photo: PAP/Darek Delmanowicz/Jacek Turczyk High profile MEPs such as Zdzisław Krasnodębski (L, currently one of the deputy speakers of the EP) Ryszard Czarnecki (R, former deputy speaker of the EP) may fight for another term at the EP. This means that each party standing has to field strong candidates who can attract support in each of the 13 constituencies. The number of parliamentarians elected in each individual constituency is dependent on the turnout secured therein. The electoral system used to elect 52 Polish MEPs is one with a five percent threshold to obtain representation, with the country electing the deputies in 13 regional multi-member constituencies. The situation is not helped by the dispute with the EC over the rule of law issue, which allows the liberal opposition to argue Poland has become marginalised inside the EU, with some even accusing the governing party of planning “Polexit”. The party is anxious about the European elections because they tend to attract mainly urban voters among whom the party is not performing well. The European Parliamentary election is due in May, just five months ahead of the key Polish Parliamentary election in October. Having performed well in the local government elections, PiS are now slowly turning their minds to the next election. There seems to be a very large number of high profile candidates willing to stand, all wanting poll position on the lists of candidates. Law and Justice (PiS) and the opposition parties must decide in the next couple of months who to field in the European Parliamentary elections due in May next year. So I'm going to select my lighting switch, I'm going to click on Edit Type, and for my Label right here I'm going to get rid of DR.As one election ends, preparations for another begin. ![]() Now these automatically tag themselves, but I'm not a big fan of it. I'm going to pick a spot, like right about here, and I'm going to hit Escape a couple times. Don't worry about that big, ugly DR, we're going to get rid of that. I'm going to put mine right next to the door. ![]() So I'm going to come down here and I'm going to grab Door. Now if we hit the drop-down here we'll see we have quite a few of them. ![]() Now on my Electrical panel I'm going to click my Device drop-down and I'm going to go down to Lighting. I want to zoom into these areas where we have lights and we're going to add some switches. I want to roll down to my Ceiling Plan Level 1. Well, we have no way to turn these lights on or off, so what I'd like to do is add some switches to our model.
